There are certain trades and businesses that will never go out of fashions so anyone looking for a long term career that won’t be effected by lock downs and government interference then its advisable to choose one of these trades.

Electricians: as long as we have power electricians are needed. Whether your putting in a new kitchen or putting power into your shed or garage you’ll need a skilled electrician who knows what they are doing

Heating Engineers:  Unfortunately the UK have long cold winters and this is when peoples boilers usually break down so you’ll always have work if you train as a heating engineer. Even during the summer people like to get their boilers serviced ready for the winters so it ca be an all year round job.

While there are some similarities between the jobs of a heating engineer and a plumber, they are not the same trade.

Heating engineers specialize in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating systems, including boilers, furnaces, and heat pumps. They are trained to design and install complex heating systems, diagnose and repair problems, and ensure that the systems they work on meet safety and energy efficiency standards.

Plumbers, on the other hand, specialize in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and water heaters. They are trained to install and maintain plumbing systems, diagnose and repair leaks and other plumbing problems, and ensure that the systems they work on meet safety and sanitation standards.

While there is some overlap between the two trades, the specific skills and knowledge required for each are distinct. In some cases, a person may hold qualifications and experience in both fields, but they are generally considered to be separate trades with their own set of specialized skills and knowledge and it is illegal for some you work on a boiler without the proper certification.

Locksmiths: People get locked out of their homes, offices and vehicles all the time, people also lose keys or want their locks changing when they buy a new house so if you train as a locksmith you’ll always have work

Learning the locksmith trade can vary in difficulty and time depending on several factors such as the individual’s aptitude, the complexity of the locksmith skills they want to learn, and the training program they choose.

To become a professional locksmith, you need to learn various skills such as key cutting, lock installation, and repair, and security system installation. This requires a significant amount of time and effort to master these skills, and it may take several years of training and experience to become proficient.

However, with dedication and the right training program, anyone can learn the locksmith trade. There are various locksmith training programs available, both online and in-person, that can help you learn the necessary skills and gain hands-on experience. Whilst it’s perfectly legal to tae a private locksmith training course it is recommended that you always take the official Government approved course certified by Ofqual which stands for the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation and is a UK government body.

Many private companies offer cheap short courses but paying a few hundred pound for 2 days of training won’t give you the skills you need to be a successful locksmith. The Ofqual course on the other hand takes many months to complete and because its government approved their is funding available.
